Cocktail or Dessert

This recipe comes directly from Food & Wine Magazine because it looks so darn refreshing. The question is do you serve this as an adult dessert or decadent cocktail? Definately the over 21 version of ye olde root beer floats we had as kids growing up.

1.5 oz. limoncello
2 oz. gin
2 Tbl fresh lemon juice
4 oz. sparkling wine
1 scoop lemon sorbet (1/4 cup)

  1. Stir together limoncello, gin, and lemon juice in an ice-filled mixing glass until mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted, about 30 seconds.

  1. Strain mixture into a rocks glass or a wine glass. Top cocktail with sparkling wine and lemon sorbet, and serve with a spoon.

Hot and Dirty

Look to your kitchen pantry for flavor bombs that are outside the norms and up your skillz as a home bar-pro. Fresh herbs, spices and condiments may be your ticket to a revolution of your own cocktail repertoire. Get invited to all the best parties because you bring the most amazing liquid libations.

Your next Dirty Martini should and must be elevated to the next level. Why be boring?
Substitute the olive juice with jarred jalapeno brine and float a couple jalapeno slices.

In an unrelated note, during the assembly of a Lavender-Lemon Drop Martini at home, TALL blonde crushed the dried lavender flower in her mortar and pestle previously used to grind red pepper flakes.  Let me just say WOW what a great cocktail experience. An icy chilled cocktail with a warm blanket tingling my tongue.

Cheers

Cocktail Cakes

In a sunlit kitchen, a gin and tonic-infused cake beckons with a golden glaze that sparkles like liquid sunshine. Cutting into it reveals a moist crumb, alive with the aromatic dance of juniper, citrus, and botanicals. The cake is a perfect harmony of sweet and tart, with candied citrus peel adding delightful crunch. A sheer glaze of gin and tonic reduction crowns this masterpiece, turning each bite into a celebration of innovation and flavor fusion.

But the adventure doesn't end there – this versatile creation can also transform into an espresso martini cake, where the rich, robust notes of coffee meet the sophistication of a classic cocktail. Whether indulging in the effervescent joy of a G&T or the bold allure of an espresso martini, this cake is a symphony of indulgence capturing the essence of two beloved libations in every decadent crumb.

Orange U Happy

One evening, the creative mind behind TALL Blonde had a delightful idea to blend various clear spirits with freshly squeezed citrus. This innovative concoction has since become a beloved choice among friends and family. The mere mention of a gathering at the TALL Blonde household brings excitement, especially when the festivities kick off with a frosty martini glass filled with the refreshing and equally chilled mix – aptly named "Orange U Happy."

Equal parts:
Tanqueray Gin
Absolut Mandarin Vodka
Triple Sec
One peel of orange the length of the circumference of one fruit

Pour liquor into a shaker (that too is kept in the freezer)
Press the oils from the orange peel into the shaker by slightly folding the cut side of the peel into the shaker, you will feel a slight spray telling you that you did it correctly.
Fill shaker with ice, put the top on and shake hard for a good 30 seconds.
Strain into a freezer-chilled martini glass and serve.

TALL Blonde makes this in advance which allows the orange peel to infuse the alcohol giving it a mild orange color before adding ice and shaking.

Gin Smash

1 bunch basil leaves (if in doubt as to how much, go heavy on the basil)
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz. sugar syrup
Place basil and lemon into a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle the lemon and basil “smashing” the ingredients. Add sugar syrup and gin and top up with ice. Shake vigorously (the phrase “Hulk Smash!” comes to mind). Double strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with basil leaves.
